We stayed at the Sweet Autumn Inn in June of 2010, and it was both of our first time visiting a bed and breakfast. Terri, the Inn Keeper was totally wonderful, absolutely great. The house is adorable and incredibly cozy - she met us at the door, and had fresh baked cookies in our room (with extras in the dining room, as many as we wanted), and tons of little surprises hidden about the room. The room was super comfortable, very relaxing (much more than a hotel), and gave us a great place to spend the night. Terri suggested local places to get some food, which we did, and then prepared a delicious breakfast in the morning. We asked ourselves why we don't eat like that everyday... We also got to chat with Terri a bit, which led to a great morning filled with many laughs. Overall, I highly recommend staying at the Sweet Autumn Inn. It's a great place to get away to.

I'm hoping that there can be more reviews than just once a year! We stayed at the Sweet Autumn Inn last night (October 11, 2012). We were only going to be in the area for one night, and I wanted to stay in a Bed & Breakfast instead of a cheap motel. We don't go away much, so I wanted to pamper ourselves a bit. I found the Sweet Autumn Inn on the web and thought it looked perfect. I was right! The house is just lovely inside and out. There are many options for entertainment on the first floor: TV with videos and DVDs, games, books, and lots of neat antiques to look at! If it had been warmer, we could have visited the pond out back or sat on the front porch. We stayed in the Everson room, and it was very comfortable. We checked in and rested a bit before going to the Fireside Theatre in Fort Atkinson to see "Hello Dolly" (If you can go to the Fireside GO - I'm probably going to write a review of that, too). We took the many throw pillows off of the bed and put them on the chair or bench. When we came back, Teri had come in and whisked them away, left us a plate of cookies, and turned the light on for us. There was also a pitcher of filtered water next to the cookies. The one thing I will say is that the feather comforter got to be a bit much during the night. There's one of those velour-type blankets as well, and we ended up taking the comforter off the bed after a while. That'll be nice and cozy in the winter. The bed was comfortable, and we both slept reasonably well (neither of us sleeps that well away from home, and I don't sleep well in general, but we both were happy with this bed). Oh - speaking of winter, there's a working fireplace, too! Last year's review said that the bathroom was basic and "didn't really match the character of the rest of the room". Well, that suits me just fine. The one great thing about modern times is modern plumbing. Many B&Bs don't have private bathrooms (which I'm not all that fond of - it's just weird, and what do you do when you have to pee and some stranger is in the bathroom? Ack!), but this one does, and I'm very grateful. Ever stay in a hotel or B&B where the shower was just a trickle and not the right temperature? Not at Sweet Autumn! The shower was perfect, and there were plenty of towels and other amenities (Q-tips and the like). I'll take a great shower over a claw-foot tub any day. Breakfast. Ahh, breakfast. Although the rest of the stay was nice, it was breakfast that drove me to write this review. For starters there were pumpkin scones. I've never really liked scones - they're always so dry. Teri's scones were MOIST and full of flavor! She had little bowls of butter for each of us, and that just made them taste even better. There were two for each of us, but we refrained from being little piggies and eating them all. She has a large array of tasty teas, and we each had a glass of ice water and orange juice (or we could have had cranberry pomegranate). After the scones, she brought out a plate with an orange slice, a small bunch of grapes, and a bowl of oatmeal. I've never had oatmeal like this before. My husband said there was some wild rice in there, but that can't be right. There were blueberries, other fruits, nuts? I don't know - there were so many things in there and topped with a tasty yogurt/creamy thing. She told us, but I was enjoying it too much to remember everything. AND! If that's not enough... large slices of candied bacon. Needless to say, we stuffed ourselves. She let us take the scones home, and I'm looking forward to eating them tomorrow for breakfast. This has gotten long - sorry about that. We just really enjoyed ourselves, and Teri is so nice and took such good care of us. If you're on the fence at all about staying here... candied bacon and moist scones. Just go - you won't be disappointed.

Great place that we found on accident driving to another hotel. So we cancelled our reservation and stayed at Sweet Water Inn. Luckily they had an open room for us. They have three rooms, very clean and it feel like your staying at a friends house. Bedrooms are upstairs with a community fridge and microwave (stocked with popcorn ). I will stay here again. There are no words to say how great this place, love it. One of the best bed and breakfasts I have stayed at in America.

A very sweet b&b! It's your tradition b&b with an excellent breakfast! You will not leave hungry, that's for sure lol Teri is a really sweet woman and we are glad we got to meet her & get to know her story. The evening wine was a plus & there were always cookies in the cookie jar!

I was looking for a place to spend the night in Lake Mills and the choices seemed pretty limited. Luckily I found Sweet Autumn Inn. My stay was for a single night in July 2011. I booked The Everson Room. The house is easy to find as it is right on the main road south of town. It was set far enough back though, so traffic noise was not a problem. Guest parking is in the rear of the house. The guest entrance is in the front. So you get to go for a short walk to get from one to the other. After ringing the doorbell, we were met at the front door by Terri, the innkeeper. She cheerfully got us checked in and gave a quick tour of the house. The house smelled of baking cookies. Sweet Autumn Inn is much smaller than some of the bed and breakfasts that I have stayed at, but let's just call it cozy. It felt very intimate, like I was visiting my mother's house. There are only 3 guest rooms, so it is not like the place was crawling with people. During my stay I only saw one other couple and that was at breakfast. The Everson room was lovely. It was tastefully decorated with just enough old fashioned charm to make you feel comfortable without feeling like you were in an old antique store. There was enough room to move around, but not a lot. The attached bathroom was clean, but basic. It didn't really match the character of the rest of the room. The bed was very comfortable and I slept wonderfully. The room came with its own window unit A/C and a ceiling fan so I was able to get the temperature to be just what I wanted. There was not a TV in the room. This was not a big deal to me, but some people need one. (There was a TV downstairs in a common room.) I didn't spend a lot of time in the house because we had plans to visit Tyranena Brewing. It turns out that when Terri is not running her wonderful B&B, she works part-time for Tyranena. She was very enthusiastic about the beer and gave us some tips before we headed out. Breakfast was served promptly at 9AM in the dining room. Terri had asked us the day before if we had any dietary restrictions or special requests. Since we are not picky eaters, we assured her that we would love whatever she served. Breakfast was delicious. There was a selection of juices and coffee. We started with some fresh berries and a dollop of honey yogurt. Then a hazelnut pastry, before jumping into the main course which was some kind of multilayer baked version of french toast with bits of ham in it. We ended our stay by chatting with Terri about beer, the house and Lake Mills in general. She was a very engaging host, which always makes a B&B stay even better. Overall, I would definitely recommend Sweet Autumn Inn and I know where I will be staying the next time I am in Lake Mills.
